Welcome to the third lesson

Today we will be shifting out of the world of capabilities and will delve into one of the most powerful secrets of not just career but overall life management: how do you add self-driven urgency to everything that you do and as a result, take control of time in your life.

! NOTE TAKING IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

I highly recommend that you take notes while watching these videos and then revisit those notes in the future. Research has shown that note-taking + follow-up review can increase your retention by 50% or more.

Lesson 3:
Self-driven urgency

Time to complete: 1 week

Assignment Step 1

Revise the deadlines for anything coming due in the future at work (or in your personal life if you want to apply this to both)

  • If there’s an existing deadline, bring that deadline back and create a delivery buffer (~ 10%).

  • If there is no deadline set, define your own deadline.

Assignment Step 2

Create a version of the Eisenhower Matrix for your next week

Assignment Step 3

Fill out your next week of activities

  • Try to minimize the items you are tackling in the Not-Important row. Ask yourself “Is this really something I need to do?”

  • Think ahead to next week, next month, and more. Ask yourself: “What can I add this week into the Not-Urgent but Important (upper right) quadrant that will prevent something from moving into the Urgent and Important quadrant in the future?”

  • Rinse and repeat until you have eliminated (as much as possible) items in the Important but Urgent quadrant (upper left).
