Welcome to the fourth lesson

Today we will have the first lesson that delves into the idea of creating ‘net positive’ energy in a company—something I call being Energy Accretive. We will go deep into one of the most common behaviors that creates energy drag: having too much Advocacy in your approach and not understanding when and how to ask questions.

! NOTE TAKING IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

I highly recommend that you take notes while watching these videos and then revisit those notes in the future. Research has shown that note-taking + follow-up review can increase your retention by 50% or more.

Lesson 4:
Inquiry vs. Advocacy

Time to complete: 1 week

Assignment Step 1

Go out and practice your Inquiry vs. Advocacy skills and balance

  • Do this in multiple work and personal settings

  • Try to apply the 5 rules I have laid out in terms how and when to use Inquiry and how to transition into Advocacy

  • Jot down notes from these conversations. Did you get different or surprising outcomes? Did you end up in a different place than you expected going in?

Assignment Step 2

Go back to one (or more) of the previous lessons and continue building those muscles

  • You are going to have to change your behavior and time mix pretty substantially, and that is going to take continued focused time and effort

  • Continue to use the Eisenhower Matrix to gauge and measure how you’re doing at freeing up more energy for INU (Important Not Urgent) work
